WARDOGS on Linux, Proton & Steam Deck: Officially Unsupported

Updated 2026-09-25

Searching "WARDOGS Steam Deck" or "WARDOGS Linux"? Here is the definitive answer, straight from the developers.

The quick answer

WARDOGS officially does not support Linux or Proton. Since Steam Deck runs Linux (SteamOS), that means no Steam Deck support either. This is an official statement from BULKHEAD on the Steam forums, not community speculation.

Why not?

The community's leading explanation — and the usual reason in cases like this — is WARDOGS' kernel-level anti-cheat. Kernel anti-cheat drivers are Windows-specific, and the game has a large (231-reply) thread discussing that anti-cheat system. Until the developer ships a Linux-compatible anti-cheat configuration, Proton will not save you. Note: this causal link is community inference; the official statement is simply that Linux/Proton is unsupported.

Your options

PlatformWARDOGS status
Windows PCSupported (Early Access, out now)
Linux / ProtonNot supported (official)
Steam DeckNot supported (runs Linux/Proton)
ConsolesPlanned for 2028 (official FAQ)

If your only gaming machine is a Steam Deck or Linux box, the realistic options today are dual-booting Windows or waiting — either for official support or the 2028 console versions.
